WILDLIFE CONSERVATION & SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT
In partnership with Open Africa for sustainable tourism
Elephant Pepper Camp (EPC) has been a driving force in the creation of Mara North Conservancy (MNC), an area which covers 70,000 acres between Musiara and Aitong, and which acts as a core parcel within the Masai Mara eco-system. The newly formed conservancy ensures that the land is used solely as a wildlife conservancy, and also guarantees its 750+ Masai landowners stable revenues and transparent financial management. The ancient and delicate balance between wildlife and traditional pastoralism is preserved, and the conservancy looks toward a future of eco-friendly social development.
Although the establishment of the MNC is a landmark development for the region, EPC has behind it a long history of wildlife conservation and social engagement. For the past 20 years, EPC has joined together with the local government, community and other stakeholders to enforce numerous initiatives toward a better and brighter future. Water from Wildlife is one such initiative which brought water to schools without damaging the fragile eco-system, and also assisted with the trans-location of homesteads in order to reduce their need for tree-felling.
