This pristine stretch of land has been passed down four generations and as such the Lion Sands family has developed a sincere commitment to the conservation of land and wildlife. Lion Sands Game Reserve is located in South Africa’s beautiful Lowveld region – a region which now forms part of the oldest private game reserve in South Africa, and which is also part of the largest conservation area in southern Africa. Lion Sands offers the best in close-up viewing of African wildlife, and presents guests with thrilling photographic opportunities beyond compare. Guests at Lion Sands can spend up to 6 hours in the bush per day watching the landscape come to life as the day breaks, and savouring the African sunset while creatures of the night begin to stir. WILDLIFE CONSERVATION & SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT

In partnership with Open Africa for sustainable tourism

At Lion Sands it is a well-known fact that although Guy Aubrey Chalkey was a keen hunter, he never hunted on the property after it was purchased by him in 1933. The land which today makes up Lion Sands has always been a wilderness area, and since the days of Chalkey there has been a long history of respect for and commitment to wildlife management and conservation. With the growth of camps at Lion Sands in the last few decades, a full-time ecologist has been employed to monitor and manage the effect of commercialization on surrounding land and wildlife.

Lion Sands Game Reserve has also made a concerted and whole-hearted commitment to the local community which is based on goals toward equitable access of resources to all people of South Africa. Among other community initiatives, Lion Sands is proudly associated with Henna Pre-School as well as the Huntington Home Based Care Initiative. Read more
