Located in Kenya, Maasai Mara

Saruni Safari Camp is ideally situated in the Mara North Conservancy, nestling in the secluded valleys of the mountainous northern edge of the Masai Mara which is the final destination of the annual great migration within the 25,000 square kilometer Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The Mara North Conservancy comprises 28,000 hectares of lush mountains, valleys and rolling savanna, adjoining the northern boundary of the Masai Mara National Reserve and forming part of a single unfenced game reserve. Leopard Gorge in the heart of the conservancy is famous as the setting of countless BBC Big Cat Diaries and National Geographic documentaries.

SAFARI EXPERIENCE at Saruni Safari Camp

It is fair to say that the Masai Mara is the most well-known and exciting game reserve in Africa. Saruni guests have exclusive access in open land rovers to the 28,000 hectare Mara North Conservancy, along with 10 other small luxury camps in the conservancy. Vehicle density is reduced and better controlled than in the Masai Mara reserve itself, however the reserve is also accessible to guests. The plains teem with grazing herbivores which give rise to large predator populations. The Masai Mara supports the largest population of lions in Kenya, as well as large numbers of leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal. During the annual migration from July - October each year, millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle move onto the plains of the greater Masai Mara (incorporating the Mara North Conservancy), adding to the resident herds. Unique spectacles such as wildebeest river crossings during the migration can be observed in the reserve. Herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe and many other wild animals and birds add to the excitement of an unforgettable African safari in the Masai Mara. Read more

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION & SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT

In partnership with Open Africa for sustainable tourism

Saruni is one of the pioneering safari lodges of the Mara North Conservancy which is part of a novel and innovative partnership between responsible ecotourism and the Maasai people who own the land. The Mara North Conservancy can be held up as a highly innovative and successful model for extending the ranges of wild animals around national parks in Africa in harmony with local resident populations. The Maasai people as landowners benefit directly from ecotourism as the lodges pay monthly rentals, and as a consequence the Maasai help conserve the wildlife and follow harmonious farming practices. By supporting Saruni, guests not only enjoy the natural wonders of Africa, but help preserve and extend them for generations to come. Read more
