Liza’s homestay is a wooden cottage accommodating two people (in single beds). If there are more than two in the group, Liza will make arrangements at other homes in the Collinshoek community.
There is electricity, running water, an inside flushing toilet and a bath. Bedding and towels are provided. Liza serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on request. She offers traditional dishes such as curried fish, vetkoek, home made bread and mielie meal pap for breakfast. In the evenings, visitors are invited to eat with the family, listen to stories and learn about their way of life and history of the community.
Liza runs the homestay and is also a counsellor and a first aider. She is recognised as a community leader and is part of the Forestry Indaba which is a forum representing the forestry communities affected by the privatisation process.
Activities:
- Walks and picnics to the famous indigenous “Big Tree“;
- Bird-watching;
- Visitors can listen to talks about the local history, graveyards and surrounds; and
- The local community offers concerts of singing and dancing.
