Kalahari River & Safari Co. river camp base is located on the northern bank of the Orange River near Augrabies in the Northern Cape’s Green Kalahari region where the cool waters of our magnificent river provide a welcome respite from the region’s arid landscape.
Accommodation:
Luxury tents:
Our luxury tents are raised and on stilts with great views of the river so prepare yourself for a real safari atmosphere! The tents contain a double bed and a sleeper coach and each have an en-suite bathroom. They are also equipped with a bar fridge and kettle. Dinner and breakfast options are available.
Family units:
We have two family units that each have two en-suite bedrooms with a fully equipped kitchen. They each sleep between four and six people.
Camping:
Our camping area is beautifully situated on the rolling lawns on the river bank under the shade of huge Camel Thorn trees. We offer 22 sites (all grassed and shaded) and the beautiful vista of the Orange River is visible from all the sites. All our sites have electricity points, braai (barbeque) facilities and rubbish bins. They are also located close to the central ablution facilities for washing up and bathroom convenience. Ice and firewood are available.
Our ablutions have baths, showers and basins with hot water, toilets and electrical points for hair dryers, etc. We also offer a laundry service.
Permanent tents:
Our permanent tented camp offers relaxed rustic simplicity. The tents are comfortable two sleepers with river views and include beds, bedding, towels and electricity. Each tent has the use of a private patio area with place to braai (barbeque) and socialise.
As the tents accommodate two comfortably, we are able to add additional beds or mattresses with linen for families with young children. This accommodation is a favourite with backpackers visiting our region.
Self-catering rustic river cabins:
These one roomed rustic cabins are right on the river bank with uninterrupted river vistas. They are secluded and shaded by large trees and are ideally situated for a relaxing breakaway. Each hut has a bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin. The huts are equipped with fridge, stove, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery and each chalet also has a braai (barbeque) area with grids. All the huts accommodate between two and four people per unit.
Group tented camps:
For our bigger groups we do tented camps in the campsite. These tents can also be pitched in our own camp site for those that would like to camp but do not have camping equipment. We often use this facility for visits by teambuilding, School and Film Crew groups.
Activities:
Kalahari River & Safari Co. offers river rafting and kayaking, as well as a wide range of other river and land based adventure activities. Our facilities are family orientated and there are plenty of activities to ensure that your visit is both exciting and memorable for adults and children of all ages. While we provide adventure and relaxation for corporate, business and private clients, our goal is to ensure that they all have fun at Khamkirri, the adventure destination of choice!
Meals and drinks:
Our covered deck overhangs the river, where one can relax quietly and enjoy nature. The bush bar is a great place to exchange harrowing or hilarious tales with your fellow adventurers over a cold drink.
Our outdoor restaurant area is nestled between indigenous trees next to the river and this is where we provide delicious al fresco dining for all meals. We have a basic menu selection during holidays, but have a few favourites that are a standard on our menu. Our legendary Stack of Ribs, for instance, is always a hit with hungry, weary travellers.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available daily. We are also able to provide special menu selections and specifications for your private or corporate group needs.
Weddings and events:
Kalahari River & Safari Co. also offers event hosting such as conferences, weddings and corporate team building and our hospitality and beautiful setting will ensure a memorable event.
