Melmont Honeybush Tea

Melmont is situated north of the Kouga River, on the farm Nooitgedacht. On the farm there are clusters of mountain Honeybush, and it is here where the tea is processed and exported in great quantities, under the name “Melmont Honeybush Tea”. The product is also marketed locally, but on a smaller scale.

The tea grows naturally on the farm Koudenek and it on this farm that the Nortje’s have been processing tea under strict environmental certification and monitoring from reaping the tea to processing, packaging and exportation.

The Honeybush tea has been processed from as early as the 1940’s, but has only been exported since 1996.

The Assegaaibosch Country Lodge (Kareedouw) offers overnight accommodation and the neighbouring farm will also be developing accommodation facilities. The farm and tea plantation can be visited by appointment only. Packaged tea is on sale and the Nortje’s occasionally display photos and their personal videos to those that are interested.
