Mountain Park Hotel offers both a full hotel service and self-catering accommodation. There is plenty to occupy the whole family, with a swimming pool, tennis court, bowling green and horseback outrides.
The hotel nestles beneath the landmark mountain Amahaqwa, ‘The Frowning One’, a popular hanging gliding destination. Closeby and surrounding the hotel is the Bulwer Biosphere Reserve which incorporates the slopes of the mountain, mist belt grassland and indigenous forest.
The Marutswa Forest Boardwalk comprises a network of arterial trails leading into indigenous forest where the Cape Parrot, Orange Ground – Thrush, Green Twinspot and Narina Trogon may be seen.
The Village of Bulwer was established in 1885 and a unique reminder of its early history is the Yellow Wood church, which was built by public subscription and dedicated to the Holy Trinity by Bishop Macrorie in about 1886.
Trout fishing is easily arranged at the many dams closer to Underberg from where the visitor can also make an exciting trip up the Sani Pass into Lesotho (passport necessary).
