R62 Langkloof Tourism

Gerrie and Hettie Schoeman originally come from Musina in the Limpopo Province. They are involved in various hospitality ventures in South Africa as well as elsewhere in Africa. Recently they have acquired a large complex overlooking the old and scenic town of Joubertina on the famous R62 Route. The complex overlooks a valley of orchards with layered mountains each side and is 50km from Kareedouw when travelling towards Oudtshoorn and George.

The kiosk offers take-away or sit-and-stay light meals, and they will serve an English breakfast in the shade of the gazebo, or a packed take-away.  The kiosk serves coffee, tea and fruit juice and stock most of what is needed in a car, from wet-wipes to small emergency medicines.

There is also a gift shop that stocks a variety of craft work, dried fruit and nuts, condiments and preserves. It also serves as an information centre and stocks brochures and maps on all the local attractions, which include a variety of guest farms, walking trails and quad bike rides. Quad bike trails can be arranged here.

A traditional farm stall will also be opening in March 2007, which will provide the opportunity for travellers to obtain fresh and good value local fruit, vegetables and flowers. It will offer jams, pickles and sauces, produced in house and locally sourced. A fuller menu will be on offer and the venue will be the ideal place to take a break from a trip, perhaps to plan an excursion to one of the local guest farms or trails.

For those who want to take advantage of the superb local guest houses, there will be a full service restaurant, with an outside deck. There will be a menu offering a wide variety of choices, a sports bar and a wine boutique. The famous Klein Karoo wines will feature, as will the internationally known Boplaas Port.

The Schoemans are experienced in the hospitality industry and will venture to reflect this in the way they run their business.

Gerrie is an off road specialist and guides tours to all points of Africa, as well as locally.

The R62 Langkloof Tourism will be run by South Africans who are proud of their country and who want others to experience all the Eastern Cape has to offer.
