The Wild Coast Jikeleza Route is the link between the Wild Coast and the Sunshine Coast. This fast growing popular scenic coastal route is made up of a cluster of more than 50 tourism attractions and has over 28 unique accommodation establishments ranging from a 5-star luxury boutique hotel to one of South Africa’s best rated backpackers. If you are an adrenaline junkie or just feel like doing something different, then this mild to wild, bush to beach route is where you should be. The possibilities are endless – you could experience a bird’s eye view of the world by helicopter, experience the wilderness on the back of an elephant, ride a horse along the beach, canoe across a river, hike along some spectacular trails, go fishing, see a whale, watch the dolphins ride the waves, zip line through a Private Game Reserve, relax on a river cruise or just take a stroll along one of our breathtaking beaches (Rainbow Valley, Sunrise-on-Sea, Yellow Sands, Kwelera, Glen Garriff, Glen Eden, Glen Muir, Chintsa West and East).
The Wild Coast Jikeleza route starts just outside the East London suburb of Beacon Bay and ends on the N2 some 30km away. For the most part it follows the T1 Road (also known as Schafli or the East Coast Resorts Road) with several stops on a number of tarred and well sign-posted trunk roads ranging from the T2 to the T10. The route is 99% tarred, in a malaria free pristine coastal area of temperate climate and exceptional natural beauty.
The Wild Coast Jikeleza route offers all the essential amenities, such as ATM’s, fuel stations, medical facilities and is situated approximately only 30km away from East London’s international airport.
‘Jikeleza‘ in the local isiXhosa language invites one to “wander” or “meander” and we would like to welcome you to “Jikeleza” through one of the youngest and most scenic coastal tourist routes in the Eastern Cape – come explore the wealth of the natural, artistic, boutique and sometimes, eclectic attractions we have to offer.
The true secret behind the success of the Wild Coast Jikeleza Route lies in the fact that families are valued wherever you go and there is, quite literally, something for everyone!
