Bakkrans Accommodation

Bakkrans campsite is located beneath a dramatic cliff overhang (on the owner’s suggestion: “don’t bother bringing a tent – sleep in the open”) in a gorge close to the road and with easy access from the parking area. Only one group at a time is allowed, so it is an ideal site for privacy.

The site can accommodate up to fifteen people and is equipped with gas and paraffin lamps, a built-in braai (barbeque), hot and cold shower and flush toilet, mattresses and cooking utensils. “All that you need to bring along are food, clothes and sleeping bags. If you prefer we will supply breakfast and dinner upon request”.

Bakkrans is a unique base for hiking, bird-watching, climbing, game-viewing and looking at rock art, and can be visited at any time of the year. There are 4×4 trails to satisfy all levels of interest. Bakkrans also offers trophy hunting in season. At Kleinpoort less than 1km away there is petrol, diesel, ice, a liquor store and a general dealer stocking all necessities.

“If you are lucky, you may even spot a rare and protected Cape Leopard whose territory lies in and around Bakkrans”.
