The scenery along the route is made up of colourful cliffs and rock formations characteristic of the predominant hard sandstone. Endless mountain scenery and serenity are found along this route. It is here, in this central section, where the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve and World Heritage Site is situated, and the majority of the plant and animal species are found. There are forest of yellowwoods, thickets of spekboom, fynbos proteas and karoo bossies. The gnarled Willowmore cedar is also found throughout the region.

The road in certain sections of this route can only be traversed by high-clearance 4×4 vehicles. The rugged mountains and steep passes are thrilling and 4×4 enthusiasts are sure to enjoy this section of the kloof.
