Benjamin Nzala, a resident of Soulspoort, developed an interest in wood carving in 1992 partly because of the lack of jobs in the area. Though he has been carving for some time now, he says he finds it difficult to market his work due to financial constraints. As a result he has decided to help the community instead, while working to improve his skills as a craftsman.
“Should my wish become true to help the community, I will be a very happy man,” he says.
Visitors will be pleased to know that while the big-hearted Benjamin’s outlook is non-commercial, it is possible nonetheless to buy examples of his work directly by arrangement.
