Bushmans Kloof

Set against a backdrop of spectacular scenery and exquisite indigenous gardens, Bushmans Kloof offers a unique wilderness experience approximately 270km from Cape Town.

Located on the edge of the Cederberg Wilderness Area, Bushmans Kloof is situated between the eastern foothills of the Cederberg Mountains and the plains of the Great Karoo. It is a privately owned reserve with more than 140 species of birds, 755 species of plants and more than 34 species of mammals.

The Homestead:

The warm heart of Bushmans Kloof, the Homestead, is set away from the guest rooms and welcomes guests to the convivial bar, a wine cellar, the world-ranked restaurant and a dining terrace.

There are two stylish lounges, one with a large flat-screen television with DVD and satellite reception, and the other in traditional drawing room style for after-dinner drinks and conversation around the fireside.

A comprehensive library and DVD collection is available together with a desk and wireless internet facilities.

The Conference Room, Heritage Centre, Fitness Centre and a dual massage area form one wing of the Homestead, which is built around a sunny terrace and the heated jet pool.

The Manor House:

The Manor House offers two luxurious suites, Niven – complete with satellite television facilities – and Paterson. It also boasts two deluxe rooms, a large wooden deck positioned in the cool shade of an ancient ficus tree with exquisite views of the River Boma, lush green lawns and the Boontjies River.

The Manor House acts as official check-in and welcome area. Custom made fabrics and hand-made bed linen enhance the luxury and comfort of the bedrooms, while the bathrooms are delightfully ‘au naturel’ with soft lighting and natural colours, shades and hues adding to their charm. All rooms have direct-dial telephones, underfloor heating, ceiling fans, mini-bar fridges and temperature control units.

Cuisine:

The award-winning menus and wine cellar are in keeping with the lodge’s status as a Relais & Chateaux establishment. Just-picked fresh fruit and vegetables from the lodge’s organic garden are a healthy enhancement to every meal.

The day starts early with a light Continental breakfast – served in your room, or a bush breakfast next to a cascading waterfall before you set off on your guided rock art walk. After working up an appetite, you’ll return to the lodge for the legendary mid-morning Bushmans Kloof brunch – a dazzling buffet of fruit, yoghurt, cereals, cold meats, cheeses, and a choice of hot light meals.

Sensibly, the next meal is a sumptuous High Tea in the finest country manor style, with the addition of scrumptious Dutch-style pastries adding a South African touch. High Tea is a tradition passed down from the original Scottish owners.

On the evening nature drive, sundowners and snacks are served at one of the scenic spots or lookout points. And then it’s back to the Lodge to freshen up for dinner.

Dinner is a true gourmet affair and can be enjoyed in a variety of fine dining and al fresco venues, depending on the weather or your personal preference.
