In 1895 the Rhenish Mission Society established a reserve for the Bergdamara and Hai//om communities at the farm Gaub (//Gaub, Ghaub) in order to settle the nomaid people of the area and teach them about agriculture. At around the same time the missionary Kremer arrived at Gaub and the settlers were the first people who were baptised in the newly erected church.
