Hippo Pools Resort was one of Hoedspruit’s first accommodation establishments and it continues to offer affordable accommodation for visitors from around South Africa and as far abroad as Chile and Europe.
This resort offers self-catering accommodation, a tea garden where snacks, drinks and light meals can be enjoyed, as well as a pool table for entertainment. All catering can be arranged, including ‘potjies’ (South African prepared stew on an open fire) at the pool, including set meals and big breakfasts.
Hippo Pools Resort also has a chapel for weddings on the premises, a large swimming pool and an airstrip (microlight trips can be arranged). Cold drinks, wood, ice creams and other basic supplies are available at reception.
As the name implies, hippos are regular guests in front of the resort’s riverside houses, enjoying the natural pools of the Olifants River. Birdlife is another feature around the resort, with sunbirds in the tea garden and fish eagles and kingfishers along the riverside. The Atkinson family took over the resort a couple of years ago and are upgrading and developing the resort in order to ensure that guests will continue to enjoy and visit for years to come.
