King Sandile’s Grave

Gravesite of the Chief of the Gaikas, mortally wounded by the colonial forces in 1878 and buried between two British soldiers, ostensibly to convince his followers that his spirit would not roam.

Today his family still lead the Gaika people and in 1972 Paramount Chief AM Sandile laid a tombstone in memory of his great ancestor at this site. The area is being developed by the King Sandile Development Trust.
