The owners describes how their business started:
“Four years ago La Lechere was built by a Swiss couple from Lausanne. A year ago it was taken over by us and were made it the home of Ukuthula. ‘Ukuthula’ means ‘quietness’, and is the name of the mystical creature, welcoming guests to La Lechere Guesthouse. Half Oryx, half Feline, it travelled all the way from Mali, carrying a lifetime of knowledge, wisdom and experience from across the African continent. Now it found a new home in Phalaborwa. Ukuthula is on your side when you explore the spirit of Africa and meet the world.”
Dar Warmke, originally from America, is an international project manager and consultant who has gained 20 years experience in international development and civil society initiates. Hanny Rücker is a trained medical professional who worked as a surgical nurse in Germany and Switzerland before moving into the field of international development and humanitarian aid. Both their personal and professional experiences have helped them develop a deep understanding and passion for people, culture and service. Their love for Africa, one of the continents they have travelled extensively, installed in them the desire to reside in South Africa and own a hospitality business set in natural surroundings.
Hanny and Dar have implemented various upgrades at La Lechere since they have taken over. These improvements have given the guesthouse a more contemporary African and luxurious feel. La Lachere breathes a warm, relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.
