Learn to Earn

Learn to Earn (LTE), is a skills development and job creation non-profit organisation situated in the Western Cape. Since inception in 1989, LTE has trained more than 8800 unemployed adults in market-relevant skills. With their motto of ‘a hand up – not a hand out,’ they seek to develop people, especially unemployed people, socially, economically, emotionally and spiritually. The vision is ‘to eradicate unemployment and other legacies of injustice in South Africa and Africa’.

Through providing a programme that recognises human dignity and the human right to “live a meaningful life”, they aim to assist individuals to regain their self respect. They do this by empowering them to provide for themselves and for their families. In recent years, LTE has maintained an 80% success rate of previously unemployed people becoming economically active, of which on average 10% have started their own businesses.

  • Graphic design;
  • Secretarial;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Home industry;
  • Baking;
  • Sewing;
  • Woodwork;
  • Embroidery and beadwork;
  • English numeracy and literacy; and
  • Business skills and Home management.
