Mrs Malinga describes the origins of the project in her own words:
“The project was started at the Roman Catholic Church in section 7. When in 2000 we were no longer able to work from the church, we started working from a garage. This continued until early 2003, when we were given land from the municipality and we built our own tin shack (umkhulu). We are trying to get sponsorship for the development of a multipurpose building (for crafts including leatherwork – making sandles and handbags – sawing (ukuthunga) and making bricks).”
