McBrides’ Camp

Accommodation at McBrides’ Camp consists of seven, private thatched two-person chalets with en-suite bathrooms. Beds have mosquito nets and each chalet has hot and cold running water, with a shower. Each chalet has a unique view, either of the river or the bush with a comfortable veranda allowing you to view the many species of birds and wildlife. Chalets are built in traditional fashion and consist almost entirely of natural materials available in the area.

The camp specializes in walking safaris on the west bank of the Kafue River. Other activities include day and night game drives, game-viewing, fishing and bird-watching excursions – and drifting on the river in their pontoon boat, The Finfoot.

McBrides’ Bush Camp is another addition to the facilities on offer. This new camp is located near the river, 14km downstream from the main camp. It overlooks a traditional buffalo drinking spot, from which at least nine well used game paths converge on the river. Herds of up to 600 buffalo can be seen drinking here. There is also a healthy pride of golden lions in the area. This camp is rustic, but comfortable, and can cater for a maximum of eight people. It can be reached by a 3½ hour drift on the Pontoon boat (the Fish Eagle) with good game-viewing, or by a 3½ hour walk from the camp. Guests can also choose which option to use for the return to the camp.

Fishing is also excellent in this area, with bream of various species usually being the most sought after catch.
