Oudemuragie Guest Farm

This picturesque farm is situated at the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountains. In this tranquil and safe unspoiled nature paradise you will experience old world hospitality.

Accommodation:

Various accommodation options are available in the farm cottages. These fully equipped self-catering houses offer accommodation for 2, 4, 6 and 10 persons respectively.

Each house is privately situated with its own interesting garden, braai lapas (barbeque areas) and views which constantly reminds one of what it must have been like in paradise. Meals and/or special dishes are available on request and the swimming pool at the Manor is also available to guests. The various hiking trails on the farm meander up the mountainside between huge aloes and across the many perennial mountain streams. The nature lover will enjoy the rare bird and game species, age old rock formations and diverse vegetation. The clear night skies, silence and peacefulness makes a visit to this extraordinarily beautiful and serene farm more than a worthwhile experience.

All of these unique characteristics are supplemented by the true traditional South African hospitality offered by the hosts, Jan and Maggie Fourie.  The establishment has recently been graded by the Tourist Grading Council as a 3-star establishment – however, it surely offers five star hospitality!

The Cottages:

Oudemuragie offers you the luxury choice of five different cottages. All these cottages are fully equipped for self-catering and each of the kitchens are equipped with all the necessary utensils, microwaves, stoves, fridges, toasters, irons, etc.

The cottages are very aptly named in true Klein Karoo style – giving each one of them an unique character. One of the reasons why guest, in returning to the farm, specifically ask for a certain cottage.

Bergsig & De Wilg:

Bergsig is a very spacious luxury cottage. It is surrounded by a beautiful private garden with a very private lapa. The view of the Swartberg Mountains from here is absolutely mindblowing.

De Wilg consists of three huge rooms including a majestic main bedroom.  The cottage is situated in a very lush garden under a huge willow tree with an abundance of birdlife. It is fully equipped and has a fireplace – the ideal setting for a honeymoon couple!

Ghaneghoetjie:

Ghaneghoetjie is a beautiful old ethnic house with the most atmospheric fireplace and reed ceilings for those cold evenings while watching the snow covering the mountains outside. Its outdoor braai (barbeque) area is perfect for those lovely summer evenings. It has a 360º view of the farm and offers the most memorable sunsets. If you book this cottage, you are most welcome to bring your pets along.

Kees & Kie:

Kees & Kie, named after the fact that the baboons previously enjoyed visiting this house, is a comfortable six room house with, if possible, the best view of all the cottages. The lapa is situated in the veld – making a braai (barbeque) an absolutely unique experience. Here you have the advantage of showering under the Klein Karoo stars. The ideal family house!

Spitzkoppen:

This house was recently re-renovated. A spacious six room house surrounded by a shaded verandah that offers beautiful views of the most famous beacon of the Swartberg mountains, namely Spitskop. It sleeps six people and has a massive garden and braai (barbeque) area. Ideal for a family getaway. The lounge in Spitzkoppen is spacious and offers a fireplace and natural wood furniture.

Vogelnest:

This cottage is ideal for a single person or a couple. This interesting little house with the build-in double bed and seats also has a cute little bathroom and garden. There is a braai (barbeque) area on the stoep that offers magnificent views.

Activities:

The farm offers a wide range of activities. You can also rest assured that your hosts, especially your hostess, Maggie Fourie, will do everything possible to make sure that you enjoy the farm and its offerings to the utmost.

Swimming:

The dam is fed by seven different waterfalls and makes swimming an absolute pleasure.

Hiking:

Short walking trails are available on the farm for guests to explore.  These trails allow you to experience some of the most breathtaking views imaginable.  The trails are completely safe making it an definite option to keep the children busy. In most cases Maggie will accompany you showing exactly what the farm has to offer.

It is also not surprising that a lot of guests visiting the farm find themselves staying a couple of days longer than expected in order to experience the different hiking trails. On these trails one would find a wide variety of birds, small game, baboons and tortoises.

A century old little rock house can be seen on one of the hiking trails. It is built with mud and stone and is the source of plenty of geological finds.

Bird-watching:

Oudemuragie Guest Farm invites you to experience a true Karoo bird-watching experience. A variety of different bird species are found on the site and here we represent Southern Africa’s birdlife at its best. Amongst them you’ll find the famous Weaver, building its nest, hanging from the branch of a Thorn Tree.

Farm animals:

The animals on the farm will obviously also offer any kid the opportunity to experience farm living first hand. Your hostess will also be only to happy to take the kids on her early morning rounds – an experience in itself as all the animals on the farm have names and each one of them has to be greeted in a special way every morning.
