Northern KwaZulu-Natal has many natural and splendid beauties, but little can compare with the superb wildlife to be seen on the shores of Lake Jozini (Pongolapoort Dam). On board the Shayamanzi Houseboat, guests can soak up the stunning scenery of the Lebombo Mountains and the Pongola Game Reserve, enjoy calm serenity on the water or the thrill of tiger fishing.
Shayamanzi Houseboat is a 80 feet (24m) double pontoon, luxury houseboat that was launched in October 2002. Cruising in style at 8 knots, Shayamanzi passengers enjoy different anchorages each evening. The boat is fully services with a friendly crew who will ensure delicious meals, a safe cruise, great fishing, game-viewing and bird-watching of more than 300 species. Shayamanzi is all about taking time out to appreciate Africa’s special wonders.
The charming and experienced skipper, a chef and some deckhands ensure a stay of luxury. The eight seater Jacuzzi, six passenger cabins, crew cabins and kitchen are all situated on the lower deck. The top deck is comfortably furnished with a lounge, dining area, bar and sundeck. The six cabins are en-suite with shower, basin and toilet. The cabins are 3.6mx3.5m and airy with large sliding window doors as the boundary to the water. For large groups of up to 16 people, sleeper couches on the top deck are used to accommodate the extra four people who then share an ablution facility.
Shayamanzi makes for a unique executive conference and wedding venue where all the relevant details are supplied or can be arranged.
Lake Jozini is the only water in South Africa where you can find the ferocious fighting tiger fish. Fishing and game viewing can be done from the boat, but other activities such as game drives, elephant monitoring, rhino walks, horse-riding and mountain biking can be arranged in the Pongola Game Reserve surrounding the lake.
