Shayamoya Tiger Fishing and Game Lodge

Shayamoya (meaning ‘song of the African breeze’) meets the needs of every family member as it has a variety of wildlife activities.

There are 10 elegantly appointed chalets, of which two are premium Honeymoon Suites. Each is privately positioned to command spectacular views from the balconies. Nestled into the bush, the chalets are built of natural stone and wood with thatched roofs. Each chalet sleeps two people, and has an en-suite bathroom – which has an outdoor enclosed shower.  Elegantly decorated with bush colours and their unique design, the chalets take on a special charm.

Carefully manicured pathways connect the chalets to the open central lodge. While strolling towards the lodge where a cool refreshment can be enjoyed in the bar, lounge or on the sundeck, visitors often encounter grey duiker, zebra and guinea-fowl. The Bundu Pot Restaurant serves delicious, hearty and wholesome cuisine. Traditional South African braais (barbque) can be enjoyed under the stars either in the boma or out in the bush. Shayamoya’s flexibility allows unique treats of breakfast on the river bank or bush dinners under the stars, lit by candles.

Shayamoya Game Lodge is KwaZulu-Natal’s place to be for relaxing back-to-nature weekends, romantic getaways, challenging experiences or simply an overnight stopover. Shayamoya is favourable located and very accessible as it is only 2km off the N2 highway, on the road to the Swaziland Border Post, Golela.

Tiger fishing (an experience to discover for those who haven’t done it yet), river safaris and game drives are some of the exciting activities available to visitors.  Or why not join the guides with their research programme on elephant behaviour?  Elephant monitoring is a highly enlightening outing in understanding the nature of these wonderful animals.  Guided walks tracking rhinos are also an exciting adventure, as is canoeing on the Pongola River in Canadian-style canoes.  Visitors can also enjoy day outings a little further afield to Thembe Elephant Park, authentic cultural villages and pristine Indian Ocean beaches.

The lodge also caters for small conferences and tailor-made company team building sessions. Shayamoya is also wheelchair-friendly.  The Blevin family (the owners) and the friendly Shayamoya team will strive to make any stay a memorable experience.
