Sun City and The Palace of Lost City

Sun City and the Lost City Resorts are some of the prime tourist’s attractions in South Africa. Situated on the slopes of a picturesque valley in the Pilanesberg Mountains, Sun City and the Lost City Resorts are intended to evoke images of an ancient African kingdom and its astonishing architecture.

The Palace of the Lost City is without any doubt one of the architectural wonders of Africa. The Lost City Palace Hotel boast two championship golf courses, featuring big-name players such as Ernie Els, Gary Player and many more, and major international tournaments such as the annual multi-million Sun City Golf Classic.

Sun City offers a never-to-be-forgotten African experience, and people from Johannesburg and Pretoria are advised to set aside at least a day when visiting the resort and surrounding areas.

The Sun City story:

During the apartheid era in South Africa, what were deemed ‘immoral activities’ by the then ultra-conservative South African government were banned in the country. The founders of Sun City therefore had to look beyond the borders of the RSA for a suitable site to realise their dream of a major international casino and entertainment resort. The Pilanesberg area of the then nominally independent ‘homeland’ of Bophuthatswana was an ideal location, not only from political and legal points of view but also because of the breathtaking beauty of the largely pristine natural environment. South Africa’s loss proved to be Bophuthatswana’s, now North West Province’s, spectacular gain. For more information about Sun City, visit their website.
