Waterberg National Park and the Waterberg Plateau are named after the table-shaped mountain that rises out of the plateau. The red sandstone, which is surrounded by a wide diversity of flora and fauna rises to 420m in some places and was declared a Nature Reserve in 1972. The ‘table‘ is largely inaccessible, enabling many of Namibia’s endangered wildlife to be relocated here to protect them from predators and illegal hunting.
Activities on offer include hiking, game-viewing and bird-watching and several privately-owned lodges can be found within the park’s borders.
