Loxton is situated in the heart of a sheep farming region was founded in 1899 when the Dutch Reformed Church bought the farm, Phezantefontein from Mr. Loxton. Loxton is a typical small Karoo town lined with trees and water furrows. The water furrows provide water to the town’s residents from a nearby fountain on a weekly basis. Many of the structures in Loxton were built in the typical Karoo style of the 1900s and some have been lovingly restored by new owners.
Events such as the Loxton show and various motorcycle rallies as well as waterskiing on a nearby farm dam attract visitors. The town has a small commercial centre with facilities such as a clinic, various stores, a church, coffee shops, post office and library.
