Bergfree Adventures offers the services of planning and leading single day or multi day guided hikes into the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Mountains – a world heritage site. All hikes are tailored to adapt to specific needs and expectations. Hiking parties remain separate, giving each group the freedom to see that which is of interest to the relevant party and to hike at a desired pace. Hikers will have the opportunity to visit ancient Rock Art sites.
No ropes or rock climbing is required, as all hikes are on safe paths and trails. The hiking party can overnight in tents, cave or mountain huts. There are also B&B’s and hotels nearby.
Bergfree Adventures offers the opportunity for a first-hand experience of the vast openness of the Drakensberg Mountains, with its fantastic views, high Basalt Escarpments, wide and deep valleys, as well as its ever-changing colours. The hiking party can swim and drink in the cool waters of the mountain streams and experience the solitude of the berg.
It is important the visitor takes note that this experience is in Mother Nature and therefore the weather can be unpredictable, with incredible changes within a short space of time and usually without warning. The visitor will have to rely on surviving with what they have.
David Sclanders, the host guide, has many years of Mountain Experience. He has hiked in every weather condition and across the mountains of the Drakensberg. His hiking portfolio ranges from hikes such as the ‘Grand Traverse’ – a thirteen day hike from the Sentinel in the Northern Berg to Bushman’s Nek in the south, a distance of 250km; to more sedately 4–8 hours day hikes. His experience also includes hikes with a lone client, as well as with larger parties; with groups ranging from experienced to first time hikers, from older hikers to younger ones.
