The Bethesda Art Centre, situated in Muller Street, Nieu-Bethesda, cannot be missed with its big fairytale like tower, where one can sleep in a round bed closer to the breathtaking starlight Karoo Sky. If the tower is not for you, there is always the quirky, basic and reasonable priory with its 1820 stained glass windows.
The Bethesda Art Centre is a community project, started by Jeni Couzyn in 1999. Highlights of events include the annual New Years Eve Lantern Festival, where 150 lanterns are paraded through the village of Nieu-Bethesda – Described in “365 to Change the World” as the thing to be doing on New Years Eve.
The Bethesda Art Centre has wonderful galleries, where 20 artists from the local community can be seen making textiles, prints, wall-hangings, bags, cushion covers, and more – all for sale at half the city prices. The Art Centre also has its own amphitheatre where local shows are put on from time to time.
The Bethesda Art Centre is not to be missed – it will keep you entertained for hours and leave you feeling richer for the experience.
