Rhenoster Valley Guest Farm

Come and experience the tranquillity and nostalgia of an old-fashioned farmstead with oil lamps and candles.  You will find yourself in a natural, untouched environment with fresh air and clean water.  You have the whole farm to yourself.

This is a 4-star establishment that offers honest Karoo hospitality in breathtaking surroundings.  All accommodation is private, comfortable and very affordable.  Guests can relax in a safe environment and witness quiet and star-filled nights.

Accommodation includes:

  • Completely furnished;
  • Fully equipped for self-catering;
  • 2 x Double rooms;
  • 2 x Single rooms (sleeps nine);
  • Lounge and dining area;
  • Two bathrooms with gas geysers;
  • High quality bedding and towels are provided;
  • Outside braai (barbeque) facilities in Harpuisbosskerm (a vernacular shelter built from bush);
  • Under-roof parking for guests;
  • A farm garden (some of the pear trees on the farm are over 200 years old); and
  • All accommodation is very unique and private.

In winter the kitchen has a Aga-stove that is lit and keeps burning to warm up the house.  In summer they offer a gas stove with an oven.  The house also has an indoor fireplace that may be used as a braai (barbeque).

Karoo lamb braai (barbeque) packs, freshly baked farm bread and fresh farm vegetables can be arranged on request.

Here visitors can follow a hiking trail that leads to either a viewpoint, Sterbome (Star trees) or the highest point on the farm (1869m above sea level).  For those who enjoy mountain biking, take the route to the viewpoint or take the Rante route.  The viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the Koup, Swartberge, Moordenaarskaroo (Murderer’s Karoo) and Towerkop.  Many guests enjoy their morning coffee at the viewpoint, watching the sunrise.  Those who prefer not to walk can request a trip on the back of a farm bakkie to the viewpoint.

Wildlife:

While visiting you may spot some Vaalribbok, Verreaux’s Eagle, Steenbok, Dassies and a variety of bird species.

The farm also offers some historical sites such as the English mass grave where nine British soldiers are buried.  Guests can also visit Bloukoppie from where a battle was forged.

*Please note there is no electricity, no cellphone reception or television on the farm.
