Rietfontein Ostrich Palace

Rietfontein Ostrich Palace is situated on a working ostrich farm between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn on the Route 62. It is the eldest working ostrich farm in the Cape Colony, established by the Potgieter family in 1897 and boasts with one of the most intriguing ostrich palaces, dating back to the early 1900’s.

  • One en-suite double room with shower and bath;
  • Communal lounge with fireplace;

  • Air-conditioning;
  • Tea/coffee facilities; and
  • Wall heater.

Activities and facilities:

  • Communal swimming pool;
  • Restaurant serving local wines and ostrich cuisine.  Open daily from 09:30-16:00.  Day visitors are welcome;
  • Breakfast served at the restaurant;
  • Daily private ostrich tours – duration: one hour;
  • Curio shop; and
  • Bird-watching.
