‘Senzokuhle’ means ‘we are doing well’. This women’s group started as part of a committee for to work with the street children in Mpophomeni. They then branched out to work with HIV/AIDS orphans and HIV positive people.
With the help and encouragement of Sister Sheila of St Dominic’s, the group began embroidering cloths. Those who could not embroider soon learnt as Sister Sheila helped them to develop their skills.
Each cloth produced is unique and tells something personal of the artist who created it. Traditional symbols, pictures of daily life, vibrant colours against the stark black cloth, and skilled needlecraft combine to produce a very special art form.
Visitors are welcome to come and chat to the group, and see the wares for sale.
