Situated within the Lowveld surrounded by immense beauty in the form of mountainous waterfalls (Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls, Lone Creek, Mac Mac, Horse Shoe Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Pilgrim’s Rest) and historical sites. Sightseeing via hiking trails along the Mpumalanga escarpment amongst pine and indigenous forests is one of the main activities. The dense evergreen rainforests provide an ideal walking environment for recreation.
Accommodation is provided in the form of thirteen en-suite garden rondavels (African style thatched, round rooms), two wooden cabins, two large family units, and a campsite. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, television and the self-catering units have kitchens equipped with fridges. Security is enhanced with a 24-hour monitoring system.
A large, indigenous garden, swimming pool, braai (barbeque) facility, cosy pub and restaurant provide relaxed surroundings. Options of bed only, bed & breakfast and dinner, and bed & breakfast are available.
The Back Packers’ Train, an old SAR rail wagon with three coupés and five compartments sleeps up to twenty backpackers. Two toilets are on board and men’s and ladies’ ablution facilities are alongside the train. A small veld kitchen is adjacent to the train.
