Taita Falcon Lodge

When Mr. Fourie came to the area in 1994 with the intention to practice agriculture in the area, little did he know that he would actually start and operate a lodge. He met with Chief Makusi, who offered him a piece of land. The beauty of the area overlooking the gorge, prompted him to rather start a lodge than be an agriculturist.

Taita Falcon Lodge offers its guests accommodation amidst the natural bush environment of the Batoka Gorge. The resident Vereaux (Black) Eagles can be envied as they soar by at eye level, along with a host of other raptors regularly sighted at the lodge.

The setting is natural as are the furnishings and decor, crafted by local tribesmen from indigenous materials.  The gardens are a blend of indigenous plants and are a bird-watcher’s paradise with over 210 birds identified including, of course, the rare Taita Falcon. The en-suite chalets afford both privacy and comfort. The reed walls of the chalet at ¾ height are open to the gentle breezes that blow over the gorge, but can be raised to full height if required.  There are mosquito nets on all the beds and mosquito coils are used in the evenings. During the cooler months, hot water bottles provide warmth.

Each chalet is individually prepared as per the requirement of the guests. Chalets can be made as single, double, twin or family rooms.
