Ommidraai

“Not far from the city, just far enough!”

Archaeology, architecture, antiques, art, angling, adventure, accommodation, birding, biking, backpacking, boating, Boer war sites, butterflies, camping, cosmos, cycling, dew-fresh mornings, fresh air, great festivals, ghosts, goggas, golf, ginger beer, game farms, geology, history, hiking, koeksisters,  photography, pub crawling, ploughing competitions, poetry readings, quad biking, ruins, safaris, star-gazing tours, unforgettable experiences, vintage cars, wild flowers and wide open spaces.

These are some of the reasons for tourists to explore the recently established tourist route simply called ‘Ommidraai’.  Those trapped in the hustle and bustle of city life, would say: “Die naweek is ommidraai… where shall we go? Just “Ommidraai!“

Towns along the N3 from Heidelberg to Villiers, as well as Balfour, Greylingstad and Grootvlei are currently included in the route.  Festivals will be held right throughout 2010 and include the annual Papfees at Grootvlei, The Villiers festival, Varkfees at Heidelberg and the bi-annual music festival at Val.

Other events such as writers weekends, pub quiz events, ghost story evenings, raft races, ‘fish and chips’ cricket matches, a Nat & Sap evening with lots of fun for those old enough to remember the good old days, a Port, Pasta, Poetry, Paintings and Pudding evening… to name but a few.

So explore the true platteland and meet our friendly people.
