Pongola Game Reserve

Pongola Game Reserve is an activities based reserve offering game drives, guided walks, rhino tracking on foot, canoe safaris, horse trails, boat cruises, fishing trips and safari cruises on the luxury 21m Fish Eagle Safari Boat.

Pongola Game Reserve is home to the luxurious Mvubu Game Lodge (22 beds), the small and exclusive Inyati Lodge (six beds) and Nkwazi Lodge (24 beds).  Children over 12 years old are welcome. Rates include dinner, bed and breakfast, tea/coffee and cakes before game drives and two game activities per day. Additional activities are available at extra cost.  The cuisine is typically South African with a variety of venison dishes prepared and presented in the boma or open plan dining area overlooking the river.

Nkwazi (which is the Zulu word for the African Fish Eagle) Lodge is elevated on a cliff overlooking the Pongola River entering the Pongolapoort Dam. Nkwazi Lodge is the perfect place to combine the excitement of fishing, game-viewing and a host of other activities with the tranquil views of the bush, mountains and water. The 12 twin bedded log cabins are all en-suite and have overhead fans, mini-bars and tea/coffee facilities.

A speciality at Pongola Game Reserve is the luxurious 21m Fish Eagle Safari Boat. This day cruise boat with full bar, sundeck, kitchen, braai (barbecue) and on-board toilets is ideal for a relaxed trip on the lake.

Departing twice daily from the Mvubu Jetty, the Fish Eagle offers morning cruises with breakfast and sundowner cruises with snacks. Carrying up to fifty people in comfort and safety, the Fish Eagle is ideal for lunch stops for coach tour groups passing the area. A variety of other cruises are available to suit all needs.

Pongola Game Reserve forms the core of the Pongolapoort Biosphere Reserve, a co-operative conservation programme that demonstrates that man and wildlife can interact on a sustainable basis.
