Alarm Clock

You can forget about sleeping in during spring in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. The Bokmakierie bird (Telophorus zeylonus) gets up early and is singing at sunrise. Any local knows it.

It’s local knowledge that leads you beyond the tourist traps to authentic travel experiences in Africa. Along the way you’ll make friends with incredible people in off-the-beaten-track places.

The opening of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park linking South Africa to Mozambique inspired our Rixile Bush to Beach Route. Rixile means ‘dawn of the day’ and you’ll want to get up with the Bokmakierie birds in order to enjoy the splendour of the renowned game parks. Starting at Phalaborwa, travel through the Kruger and Limpopo National Parks, crossing the border to the town of Massingir and down through Chokwe to the pristine beaches of Xai-Xai. Finally, the route heads north up the Mozambique coast to the popular tourism centres of Inhambane and Vilanculos.

We’re a social enterprise using tourism as a platform to create jobs in rural Southern Africa. We establish self-drive travel routes to showcase the best an area has to offer, delivering authentic experiences to travellers and opportunity for rural entrepreneurs. From accommodation and attractions to culture and crafts, visitors leave enriched by the local community and support local businesses at the same time.

With 64 routes across 6 countries, supporting 3,440 businesses and 28,490 jobs, we encourage you to do travel differently.
