Situated 5 minutes from the centre of Dundee, this clean and friendly little lodge is set in the heart of the Battlefields (Anglo, Zulu and Boer), between Durban and Johnnesburg and within easy driving distance of the Drakensberg mountains, Zululand game reserves and St Lucia Wetlands World Heritage Site.
The BBI motto comes from the first guests that stayed at the backpackers: “Friendliest little lodge in town“.
Both Moira and Evan are a source of information on the area having lived in Dundee for over 30 years. Moira has a welcoming (FREE) ice-cold beer, glass of wine or cool drink waiting for visitors on arrival. There is milk, sugar, tea (rooibos or plain) and coffee for the guests (free of charge). BBI offers self-catering (there is a fully equipped kitchen) or optional breakfasts and packed lunches. There are braai (barbeque) facilities. There is off-street parking, bed linen and towels are provided and there is plenty of hot water. Laundry and e-mail facilities are provided at a nominal fee. There is a cosy lounge with plenty of reading material, a brochure stand and magazines for guests to read about other establishments in the area and in South Africa. Books may be taken – on an exchange basis. BBI has one double room, one twin-bedroom and two dorms with a double bunk in each, and is situated five minutes from the centre of Dundee.
Evan, who is well known registered tourist guide, offers tours at special prices for BBI guests to all the KZN Battlefields, game reserves and the Drakensberg as well as any other tours clients may request. In addition BBI are also able to arrange hiking, birding and adventure tourism with other local specialists.
BBI offers a pick-up and drop-off service at Winterton (the Baz Bus stop), and Fort Mistake (the greyhound coach stop) at a nominal fee. BBI offers free onward bookings to the next establishment for guests.
